Aristotle
Art therapy is a gentle form of psychotherapy in which a variety of art materials are used to express and explore a person’s inner world and life experiences. It operates on the theory that the process of art making is more important than the final product, as it is through the creative process that complex thoughts and feelings are revealed and transformed. The emphasis on the creative process makes art therapy an effective form of therapy for those who have trouble voicing their experiences; especially for those facing challenges such as trauma, anxiety and depression.
As the focus is on the creative process, an art psychotherapist’s role is to provide guidance, support, and a safe space for creative exploration. This therapeutic approach is inclusive, welcoming people from all walks of life to explore their inner landscapes without the pressure of artistic expertise. Art psychotherapists do not interpret or judge your work, but rather, guide you to explore your own meanings and experience.
Importantly, art therapy is not an art class and no prior artistic experience or skill is necessary to participate.

Renee is a creative and open-minded art psychotherapist who utilises evidence-based and trauma-informed therapeutic techniques. Earning a Master of Art Therapy from Western Sydney University, Renee has gained valuable experience working with a diverse range of clients across community and hospital settings.
Renee's primary focus on grief work reflects her deep commitment to supporting individuals through emotional challenges. However, her extensive experience encompasses various areas, including men’s and women’s mental health, senior mental health, palliative care, and disability. This breadth of practice allows her to offer tailored support that honours each client's unique narrative.
In her sessions, Renee facilitates both individual and group art therapy, as well as online sessions, utilising an array of mediums and methods. This versatility enables her clients to explore and express their inner worlds safely and creatively. As an artist herself, Renee appreciates the profound impact of art as a form of expression, especially in instances where verbal communication may be insufficient or difficult. Through her ongoing work, she seeks to help others navigate the full spectrum of the human experience, fostering healing and connection along the way.
